Any woman … except this one
On Tuesday the CNE – our very neutral elections authority – explained that the gender quota would not apply to the candidates elected in the primaries. Seems like someone in the government party did some number crunching. As Eugenio Martinez explains in Prodavinci, only 28 women from a total 113 districts were elected in the PSUV primaries. If the rule stood as it was meant, the PSUV would have to produce 45 female candidates along with 45 female alternates.
So, where does the PSUV stand with the new interpretation?
On top, as usual. Since they held primaries in all 113 districts, they won’t have to adapt their principal nominees to the gender quota. Although they will require some tweaks on their voting lists and alternates.
As for the opposition, Martinez explains:
In order to comply with the rule they must nominate 29 more women as candidates and 29 more women as alternates. And for the 24 state voting lists, the MUD must have 20 women running as list heads, and the rest (the other 20 women) must run -at least- from the third position in the list.

They seem to be going for the sexist vote, that is, those who will prefer to vote for male candidates than for female candidates merely because of the gender of the candidates. The perverseness is that they are doing so under the guise of feminism.

Historically Venezuelan voters have never seemed to have a problem with voting for a female candidate.
There just haven’t been a lot of them maybe due to the political parties not promoting them.

I had to back-track on that Gender Equality Machiavellian rule for 2 reasons:
1/ Not enough PSUV women. They just didn’t want to get into politics. Which demonstrates women are smarter than men, in every way, as the Grateful Dead sang. There’s only a few of us into it, but that’s just because of some obscure childhood problems or sexual identity issues. Just look at mu haircut.
2/ The PSUV Male enchufados wanted their piece of the pie. CapoCabello ordered me to loosen it up for some of his compadres, what can a sweet, honorable lady like me do about that?!

Island Canuck, I agree, but that’s the point. If they thought the female candidacy had a vote advantage, then they would not be pushing for the opposition to have a greater female proportion. If they were willing to have non submissive women in power roles, then they would have at least one already. Since *they* have a problem with voting for a female candidate into positions of power, they project and assume the same for others, so they go for their imagined sexist vote, then they turn it on its head and pretend to be doing it in name of feminism.

I just want to point out the fact that, remember when we had this debate about a month, month and a half ago? About how falling into the discussion of “Oh, well, the MUD should have seen this” is stupid because Tibisay is not doing it for gender equality but for sabotage?
