Who wants a Mustache Ride?

Ahhhh.. everlasting love. Just the thing you need instead of basic food supplies and neoliberal announcements.

Happy anniversary to the first couple (Thank you Capriles) of our failed state. May you have loving years of whiskers and salsa until 2019 (Thank you Capriles).

  1. Qué cursilería. The head of state, her mustachioed paramour, and their blonde dog, all designed to say to Capriles: chúpate esa mandarina.

      • This is what wikipedia has to say about the couples brood : “Entre Nicolás Maduro y Cilia Flores no hubo hijos en conjunto, pero si formaron una familia a partir de relaciones anteriores, Flores tiene 3 hijos y Maduro 1 hijo “

  3. This was like an even more tackier version of those reality TV shows on couples’ lives. Somebody should get Cisneros on the phone to pitch him this as Venevision’s next novela.

  4. As much as I appreciate your snark, Emiliana, blaming Capriles for this is not helpful! Even though we are all pissed at him, it’s a stretch to say this is all his fault, isn’t it?

    • NO. Not so much. How do you figure it is not at least in large part his fault? Who stopped a mega march the day after the CNE fraudulently announced a Maduro win ???

      • Yes Juan, don’t you remember the thousands of people that spontaneously headed to Miraflores after Tibisay announced the results? They were all stopped in their tracks by Capriles himself blocking their path. He held them ALL at bay, the fiend.

  5. OK, I asked Emiliana this on Twitter but I am not sure she was pulling my leg.
My question to you: was this wonderful video part of a cadena? (I stopped listening to the “Sacudón” after a while)

        • Oh, let’s see. In 1998, 2000, and 2006, the majority of voters voted for “the supreme and eternal commander of the Bolivarian revolution”. In 2009, they voted in favor of indefinite reelection to allow him to run again in 2012. They voted for him yet again. He told people to vote for Maduro when he knew he was about to die. Thrown in a CNE controlled by Tibisay and a candidate who refused to fight for what was his, and you get your answer. I remember a guy once telling me “Cada pueblo tiene un gobierno que se merece”, and the guy was a Cuban immigrant. A freaking Cuban!

  6. vote for Chavez 16 years ago? Giving too much importance to ni-nis and anti-politics, believed that we had a rich country when all evidence said that wasn’t the case…. among other things

  7. I’m thinking that the one to blame is Delia Fiallo, not Fidel nor Chavez as we have been thinking all along. This “cursileria como politica de estado” is way too elaborated for such beginners! Arriba Delia, la comandante de los comandantes!

  8. It’s moments like these when I kind of wish the US had a sycophantic state-run media that could run cheesy, poorly-produced, puff pieces like this. I especially like how they include a clip of the president–you know the guy who was chosen by the people to govern–saying that it’s his unelected wife who governs.

  9. Amor en tiempos de revolución…Cómo nos gusta una novela!
…Cómo nos distraemos con una novela!
…Cómo nos olvidamos de todo con una novela!
…Qué hermosa la salsa vieja de Ruben Blades….y las novelas!

    ….Ligia Elena! Cilia Flores!

  10. Serious question, do you think Nico’s closeness to Cilia was a factor in Chávez’s decision to name him successor? From what I’ve read Cilia and Chávez went way back and she supported him even when he was a nobody and has been very loyal. She also has a stronger academic and political background as she has a law degree.
